World Series Game 7 Attracts 51 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting extra-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a total 51 million spectators across the United States, Canadian, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball stated this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 showdown featuring the Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic game secured over 27 million viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series game after the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a 16% improvement compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked 4th, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game finished in 13th place.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game recorded 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English broadcast in Canada since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest began at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12 million viewers. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – recorded 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series averaged 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience growth for two straight years.

Including the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the complete American average was over 16 million. The overall World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million watchers, an eight percent increase over last year and the network’s strongest postseason performance since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
